Everything You Need to Know About Veneers
One of the fastest ways to transform your smile is to wear veneers. Veneers are made from porcelain, molded and created to look exactly like natural teeth. The procedure solves common dental aesthetic concerns such as teeth gaps, discoloration, and misalignment in a matter of weeks.
Here at Aquario Dental, we equip and inform all of our patients with extensive knowledge before undergoing a cosmetic dentistry procedure.
If you want a veneers procedure, you will go through 4 easy steps.
- Next, your dentist will check for gum problems or tooth decay. Evaluating your current dental health will determine if a veneer procedure is appropriate for your teeth.
- Your dentist will take an impression or model of your teeth. Once your dentist has determined your aesthetic goals and eligibility, he or she will prepare the procedure.
- The dentist will use the impression to mold and create your veneers. This process may take from one to a few weeks to complete.
Once the veneers are ready, your dentist will proceed to check and adjust the fit of the size and shape to your teeth. Next, the dentist will prepare your teeth by removing a portion of enamel from your natural teeth and polishing it so that it can form a strong bond with veneers. The step of removing a part of enamel can be painful for patients with sensitive gums and nerve endings. Inform your dentist if you wish to use anesthesia for the procedure.
Once the preparations are complete, your dentist will start to attach the veneers to your teeth with the use of a dental cement to glue the two surfaces together.
Benefits of Veneers
Braces will take a few months to a year to correct teeth gaps and alignment problems while veneers provide a quick fix. Note however that veneers will need replacement within 10-20 years of use.
Aside from having a fast smile transformation (within a span of few weeks), veneers are stain-resistant and will allow you to smoke and drink dark liquids without worrying about discoloration.
Your veneers will last you a decade or more as long as you take of it. Observe proper brushing and flossing to avoid cavities. Take extra care when chewing hard food (think apples and nuts) since veneers are made from porcelain, it can shatter when you put too much pressure when eating hard food. Remember to come back for a visit to your dentist after the veneers procedure is done and at least twice a year for regular checkups.
